Rajasthan is a road-trip state. Distances between Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer run from 300 to 570 km, and most of the trip is spent in the vehicle. So the vehicle you choose matters more here than in a compact city break. This guide helps you pick based on how your family actually travels.
Start with group size and luggage
Count people first, then add luggage. A family of 5 with two suitcases each is a very different load from five people with backpacks. As a rough guide:
- Up to 6 people: a Toyota Innova is comfortable and easy to manoeuvre in old-city lanes.
- 7 to 12 people: a 12-seater Force Urbania gives everyone a proper seat with luggage space.
- 13 to 15 people: a 15-seater Force Urbania keeps the whole family in one vehicle.
- 16 to 17 people: the 17-seater Force Urbania is the largest van-class option.

Innova: best for small families
An Innova suits couples, small families and groups with elderly members who prefer a car-style ride. It is the easiest option for narrow streets around forts and havelis. The limit is space: with more than five or six people and luggage, it gets tight on a long outstation day.
Force Urbania: best for joint families and multi-day tours
For joint families and groups of 8 to 17, a Force Urbania is usually the sweet spot. Pushback seats, air conditioning and a proper luggage area make long drives like Jaipur to Jodhpur (about 340 km) or Jaipur to Udaipur (about 395 km) far less tiring. Tempo Traveller: a familiar alternative

Mini bus: for very large family groups
If you are travelling with 25 or more people, for example a family reunion or a pilgrimage group, a mini bus keeps everyone together and often works out simpler than juggling multiple vans.

- How many people, and how much luggage, on each travel day?
- Are there children or elderly passengers who need easy boarding and frequent stops?
- Is the route mostly highway, or does it include narrow city lanes and hill roads such as Mount Abu?
- Do you need the same vehicle and driver for the full multi-day trip?
