Jaipur to Jaisalmer is the longest leg of the classic Rajasthan desert circuit: about 570 km and roughly 9 to 10 hours of driving. The natural break is Jodhpur, which sits almost halfway.
- Day 1: Jaipur to Jodhpur, about 340 km and 6 to 6.5 hours. Reach by mid-afternoon, then visit Mehrangarh Fort and the old city in the evening.
- Day 2: Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, about 285 km and roughly 5 hours. Arrive in time for a sunset at Sam Sand Dunes or a walk through Jaisalmer Fort.
Useful stops along the way
The route passes Ajmer, and a short detour reaches Pushkar for a lunch or temple stop. Later, Pokaran is a common tea and rest stop on the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer stretch. Plan stops in advance so the group does not lose daylight.
Doing it in one day
If time is tight, a one-day run is possible with an early start, but expect close to 10 hours of driving before breaks. We suggest it only for groups that are comfortable with a long day and have no children or elderly passengers.

- Overnight in Jodhpur: book hotels early during wedding season and festivals.
- Desert camp at Jaisalmer: confirm pickup times and whether the Urbania can enter or wait at the camp entrance.
- Return plan: decide if you return by road or fly out of Jodhpur or Jaisalmer, since a one-way trip affects the quote.
- Season: the desert is most comfortable from October to March. Summer afternoons are very hot.
